We are writing to you today with exciting news! As you may be aware, the Sudanese Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), as announced on 3ed of October 2024 (https://www.prio.org/news/3570).
The ERRs have played a pivotal role in supporting Sudanese civilians throughout the ongoing conflict. These courageous volunteers provide humanitarian aid, vital medical care, and safe havens for those in need. Their unwavering commitment to peace and humanitarian aid has been truly legendary.
This nomination is a significant recognition of the ERRs’ remarkable work and a testament to the power of ordinary citizens to make a difference. However, their journey doesn’t end here. To secure the Nobel Peace Prize, the ERRs require widespread support. The Nobel Prize winner will be announced on Friday, October 11th. The Nobel Committee is currently deliberating on the selecting the recipient, considering their groundbreaking achievements, societal impact, and ethical conduct. Additionally, please activate all available institutional channels with the press to actively highlight this nomination. Please feel free to disseminate this email to any individuals or organizations you believe can positively contribute to supporting the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Sudan’s ERRs. The Nobel Peace Prize for the Emergency Response Rooms would serve as a significant symbol of solidarity with the Sudanese people and a poignant reminder to the world of the ongoing catastrophe they endure. However, this necessitates a robust campaign of media advocacy and support. Moreover, it would have a far-reaching global impact. In an international aid system mired in bureaucracy, the Sudanese Emergency Response Rooms present an alternative model marked with flexibility, speed, and direct responsiveness to the needs of those affected. Placing human beings, rather than power dynamics and political agendas, at the forefront of their priorities, ERRs stand in stark contrast to international organizations often hampered by slow procedures, multiple intermediaries, and conflicting agendas. This pioneering experience calls for a re-evaluation of the foundations of modern humanitarian work, shifting from traditional aid models to a more community-centric approach rooted with mutual respect, complementary roles, localization, and bottom-up initiatives. Fostering such endeavors is not merely a humanitarian duty but an investment in more effective modalities to help the vulnerable around the world. Together, we can ensure that the world recognizes the ERRs’ extraordinary bravery and contributions. Sincerely, | Amgad Fareid Eltayeb Executive Director Fikra for Studies & Development www.fikrasd.com |
