Since the onset of war in Sudan on 15 April 2023, a number of courageous initiatives and projects have emerged, reflecting the Sudanese spirit of solidarity and innovation in the face of war’s calamities and catastrophes. In spite of the lack of resources, the dangers of movement, and the absence of logistics, the Resistance Committees’ resilience and dedication were prominent in their organization of The Emergency Rooms, which contributed significantly to the evacuation of victims and distribution of humanitarian aid. Numerous volunteer teams were organized from the various syndicates of doctors, journalists, teachers, and other professionals to provide social services, care for the injured and affected, and document the war’s tragedies.
The Sudanese people and civil society have demonstrated exceptional bravery by their voluntary endeavors, which have undergone notable expansion compared to the regrettable absence of any effective international humanitarian assistance process thus far.
One of the noteworthy initiatives in this context is the establishment of Sudanese Food Systems Units by the Sharik Foundation for Community Development. This initiative has been developed by the foundation’s multidisciplinary team over the span of the past five years, with the aim of building a comprehensive and integrated social partnership model that effectively addresses the issue of food security in Sudan. The significance of this admirable objective is particularly inescapable in light of the prevailing conditions of the ongoing conflict, which exposes millions of Sudanese individuals to the imminent threat of famine. We at Fikra for Studies and Development are delighted to present this attached introduction to the Sudanese Food Systems Units initiative. Within these pages, you will find a comprehensive overview of the initiative’s design, methodology, and objectives. These valiant efforts by the Sudanese in the face of war, reflect the will and creativity of a great nation who deserve a peaceful and stable existence. They additionally draw inspiration from and support the natural organic growth of Sudanese civil society as it works towards fulfilling its original purpose, restructuring the state and services, filling its gaps, and safeguarding national sovereignty in its authentic form, which involves satisfying the needs of the people. |
